On the second floor it drops to about 20-40 mbps For my wireless routers I have always turned off security and used mac filtering along with hidden SSID to "secure" my home network. Along with those changes I updated the 2.4 and 5 ghz channels to separate SSIDs, 40hz, N only and set to a channel that no one else in the neighborhood uses. It took about 20 minutes when you throw in all the apply or save The UI to set all that up is pretty easy. Cons: Questionable Firmware based on other reviews, Not so fast reboots Other Thoughts: I've owned this router for about 3 weeks now, and have yet to have any real problems. This is true, but the problem is that those guest SSIDS are only separate from other 2.4 ghz band SSIDs, NOT from the 5ghz band. Asus offers no phone technical support, as far as I can tell, and their online support forum registration process did not work for me. (also, their support forum search feature does not work, so there is no easy way to see if someone else has solved this problem) In my opinion, poor access to technical support is a major flaw, one that will impact future purchases.
